ClockX 1.6.0 runs on Windows 11 without issues. The floating desktop clock, alarms, skins and world clock all work as expected. Here is what you need to know about running ClockX on Windows 11.
Short answer: yes, fully. ClockX 1.6.0 (64-bit) runs on Windows 11 without any compatibility issues or workarounds.
Works perfectly. The clock floats on the Windows 11 desktop above the new taskbar and Widgets panel.
All alarm and timer functionality works on Windows 11, including sound playback, notifications and app launching.
All skins work on Windows 11. PNG per-pixel alpha blending renders correctly on the new desktop compositor.
Multiple ClockX instances with different timezones work on Windows 11, including on multi-monitor setups.
The built-in startup option works on Windows 11. Appears in Task Manager → Startup apps as expected.
256-level transparency and mouse-over transparency work correctly on Windows 11 with its updated compositor.
Windows 11 introduced several taskbar and desktop changes. Here is how they interact with ClockX.
Windows 11 centers the taskbar by default. ClockX floats independently on the desktop and is not tied to the taskbar, so this change has no effect on ClockX positioning. You can drag the clock anywhere on screen regardless of taskbar alignment.
Windows 11 removed the legacy Gadgets sidebar permanently. ClockX is not a gadget — it is a standalone application — so it is unaffected. ClockX is in fact the best replacement for the old Windows clock gadget on Windows 11.
Windows 11 added a Widgets panel (Win+W). ClockX is independent of Widgets. If you have ClockX in always-on-top mode, it will appear above the Widgets panel. In normal mode, the Widgets panel appears on top.
Windows 11 updated the taskbar clock to show seconds and a calendar flyout. ClockX still adds value over the taskbar clock: it floats on the desktop, offers 400+ skins, transparency and alarms — none of which the taskbar clock provides.
Download ClocX160_x64.exe from the Download page. Windows 11 is 64-bit only, so the 64-bit build is the right choice. The 32-bit build also runs on Windows 11 but the 64-bit version is optimized for modern hardware.
Windows 11 SmartScreen may warn about the installer since ClockX is from an independent developer without a paid code-signing certificate. This is normal — ClockX is safe. See the help center for details.
On Windows 11, some desktop compositions can place the clock behind the desktop icons layer. Right-click → Options and try toggling between Always on top, Normal and Pin to desktop to find the right layer for your setup.
Right-click → Options → General → Auto-load with Windows. On Windows 11, the startup entry appears in Task Manager → Startup apps where you can verify it is enabled. See the startup guide.
